Tom Kohn
Executive Vice President, Digital Strategies
Kohn is charged with identifying ways to deliver Cygnus’ digital assets and original content to the millions of influentials and professional decision-makers using multiple digital platforms, and to overseeing the company’s digital strategy. Kohn has spent 25 years conceiving of and launching media businesses and corporate media divisions for the world’s top media brands, including USATODAY.com and AOL. Most recently, after launching two successful start-ups in Washington, DC, Kohn served as strategic consultant for the Associated Press. He has also worked with Viacom New Media and spent 10 years in New York City as a television executive, three with Ogilvy & Mather Advertising.
Kohn began his digital career at AOL immediately after graduating from Harvard Business School, in 1995, where he helped find and sign deals with original content providers such as The Motley Fool and iVillage. In 1997, he conceived of and launched the e-commerce division of USATODAY.com, eventually overseeing all of the web site’s revenue generation, including advertising and sales. In 1999, Kohn launched the still thriving online auction site, Bid4Assets, recognized by CIO magazine as one of the top 100 Internet firms and "Best Business Ideas" by the Washington Business Journal in 2001. In April 2002, as co-founder and CEO, Kohn helped to conceive of and launch electronic billing leader Transactis, who can claim three of the country’s top banks as clients.
